Enlarging Equipment

Our 4 bladed easel allows you to position the enlarging image exactly centered (or anywhere) on a sheet of paper, and to utilize as much or as little of the paper as you like - you completely customize the borders.

Heavy duty tabs lock blade in position (above left); photograph also shows border area calibration in inches (larger detail lower right). Right photograph (above) shows easel in position ready for paper loading.

Photograph (above left) shows easel in fully open position. From this position a single size, 3/32" border frame can be lowered for use on 14 x 17" paper.

Adjustable 4-Bladed 14 x 17 Easel

Superbly made in Japan, this easel allows for borders of any size, and also allows the image to be centered under the enlarger lens – the easel doesn’t hang –and rock - off the baseboard when you make smaller size prints. Paper is held securely, and blades hold paper absolutely flat. Tab locks are heavy duty and cannot be accidentally displaced – once the blades are set, they stay put until you change them.

Our 4-bladed easel accepts paper sizes with custom borders from 5x7 to 11x14. You can therefore print a full size image, from any format -35mm or 6x6 cm square, 6x7 cm, 6x9 cm, 4x5, or anything else; on any of these papers and utilize as much or as little of the paper as you choose.

Precise calibrations show the area being masked. This easel has automatic “click-stops” to elevate the frame for paper loading. The entire frame can also be held wide open to allow a separate, single size fixed frame to be lowered for use on 14” x 17” paper.

Many photographers I know like this easel because, by centering the image on the paper it allows for easy matting of same size prints.

This is the classic, professional enlarging easel. This easel is the very best of it’s type being made currently; the quality of workmanship and finish is superior to anything currently available.

Enlarging Timer

All electronic enlarging timers are very accurate. What’s missing in most of them is good design. This timer is the best designed, easy to use timer on the market. There is one button on this unit – to start the exposure; some timers have multiple buttons, or worse, "touch-pads". This makes it easy to hit the wrong button in the dark and inadvertently expose one or more sheets of paper by accident.

To set exposure time, you turn knobs. No buttons. One knob is for tens of seconds, one is for single seconds, and the third is for tenths of a second. Total exposure time for all 3 knobs can be increased by a factor of 10 (with a sliding switch). The setting for each knob is illuminated in red – easy to see under safelight illumination. The "focus-time" control is also a sliding switch: there is no chance you will hit a focus button instead of a time button.

The timer is compact and won’t take up much space on the work surface. It’s made in Japan, so the circuitry is top notch. An on-off rocker switch on the side of the housing turns the timer – and the red indications - off. This timer easily handles high voltage cold light enlarger light sources.

grainmag.jpg (35090 bytes) Focusing Magnifier

One of the most accurate grain magnifiers made. Eyepiece is adjustable for your individual vision - very easy to focus the enlarger precisely (a sheet of scrap enlarging paper goes under it). Good for image focus up to a 10 degree angle off the enlarging lens axis. Snap on mirror cover included. Remarkably precise – like looking at the negative under a microscope.

Easelopen.jpg (4332 bytes) easelclosed.jpg (4321 bytes) Single Size 4-in-1 Easel

Heavy Easel has 8x10 on one side, 5x7 and 2 smaller sizes on the other (3 ½ x 5, and 2 ½ x 3 ½). This easel gives a clean, even ¼" border all around. Finger lifts, rubber feet, and magnet catch allow pleasant ease of use. A favorite at the Community Darkrooms.

proofer.jpg (43890 bytes) Proofer

The best feature of this proofer is that it clamps down tight to give you crisp – not fuzzy looking – contact proofs. Simple, strong and fast to use; this proofer accommodates 8x10 paper to proof (4) 4x5 films, (2) 5x7’s, (1) 8x10; a 36 exposure roll of 35mm film or a roll of 120 film. Won’t rust in humid darkrooms, and the white base is very easy to see under safelight illumination. Optical quality glass.
