"...I can not speak too positively about the Dual
5--it's light, accurate and versatile. It's GREAT." John Burns Vicki, for years, has used an old Polaris flashmeter for her professional color transparency work. It has always given exact exposures with the very tricky, short scale, color transparency material. Ive marveled at that meter. Many times Id say, "Why cant these folks make a spotmeter?" Well, the meter is here and it performs beautifully! The silicon blue cell reads a 5° spot, and the viewfinder is very bright and clear. I found this meter to be more accurate than the 1° spotmeter Ive used for many years. The viewfinder pivots for whatever position you find most comfortable. A single AA battery that you can buy anywhere - powers the unit. All of today's digital meters are much more accurate and rugged than the old moving-needle field coil meters of the past. The problem with most digital meters is they give you too much information you dont need. Because the Dual 5 is digital, there are no moving parts. The meter is rugged, lightweight, dependable. What is really wonderful though is the LCD display: its very large and simple. The information is available at a quick glance. There is no alphabet soup jumble to give you brain freeze. There is even a button to illuminate the display in dim light. The EV display on this meter makes for easy conversion to foot-candles per square foot (c/ft2) for use with Ansel Adams Exposure Formula. This obtains very fast exposure determination with the zone system. Ive used this meter in difficult conditions in the gusting wind off of Lake Ontario, Rochesters icy rain, very early and late in the day, etc. Its a pleasure to use. It gives you all the information you need a number - and none you dont need (some meters can supposedly tell you the brightness range. Why do I need a meter to tell me the brightness range? How does it know what I want the picture to look like?). The meter also works for electronic flash reflected or incident readings. Two different flash meter modes allow you to fire the flash either from the meter (with a sync cord hookup), or from the flash unit. The Dual 5 comes with a Cordura-type case that slips over your belt for convenient access in the field. A lanyard is also included. You can attach the lanyard to the meter and slip it through a belt loop. Adjust the length so that if you drop the meter, it wont hit the ground. Fine Art Photo Supply includes an EV- c/ft2 conversion chart, as well as a guide to using the Exposure Formula, with your meter. #75-1210 .$319.00 |
